Toasty cat

About six months after we moved to Tasmania, our elderly cat Lilly decided she didn't want to use the litter tray anymore. Instead, she would leave small nuggets on the bath mat or in the walk-in wardrobe, and she sprayed on my favourite leather handbag and wallet. As many cat owners would know, cat pee is one smell that is almost impossible to eradicate from porous material. So poor Lilly had to be relocated to the large shed and garage, where she has lived quite happily ever since.

However it does get bitterly cold up there in winter. It's only just Autumn and last week it went from being 26 degrees on Monday and Tuesday to only one degree and snowing on Friday. So to keep Lilly warm (and let's be honest, to reduce my own terrible feelings of guilt) I ordered her a heated sheepskin and velour pet bed. She has hardly been out of it since.

  1. Nice!
Our ginger cat Alberto aka Bertie, aka Bertage, aka Bertram Pinkus and aka The Bertonator went AWOL for four days last week. We were distraught. He came home yesterday and we have been able to remove from the couch since

  2. I'm glad to hear he came home Steve. It's so upsetting when they go missing. We still don't know what happened to poor old Patsy, the other nanna cat who moved here with us from Sydney and disappeared when they were moved out to the shed.

  3. I'm having the same trouble with my old cat Brutus, who will celebrate his 20th birthday in 2 weeks time. After much trial & error I now find carrying him to the nearest garden bed at 6.30am & again at 6.30pm gets rid of most of the problem however I think we will both rebel in the cold of winter even in Perth. He would love a heated bed like Lilly. Susan, did you use a pet carrier like Jet Pets to get the cats to Tassie or just organise it with the airline? That is one of my dilemas especially seeing it will be two flights. Tracee

  4. We used Jet Pets. They were really great, but in hindsight, I would try if at all possible not to kennel the animals as well as fly them. We boarded our dog and both cats for a couple of days while we drove down to Tassie, then Jet Pets put them on the plane and we collected them from the airport freight terminal. The dog had a bad case of separation anxiety when she got here, though she's fine now.

  5. Oh, she looks very cosy! Gee we look after our little friends well don't we! Very spoilt! Jack just has to look at me on a cold day and in he comes! And he has a couch to himself and me and Sam have to share the other! Have a lovely weekend! x

  6. Hi Susan,

Lilly looks like she is luxuriating in her new bed along with being so terribly sweet. We all need warmth on our bones on those freezing nights. BTW...I noticed your name on the Sourdough Making course so we shall get to meet each other soon.
