Views of Maria

First day of daylight saving and we were up at 6am which was actually 7am... no wait I'm confused. Anyway... we collected friends in Franklin and drove to Orford, a lovely seaside town about an hour north east of Hobart. You can see that the town has had a revival in recent times, with a lovely cafe, IGA supermarket and post office / newsagent housed in a new building. The wind and the rain held off so we enjoyed a cliff top walk with the Clarence walking group from Shelley Beach to the top of the hill near Stapleton Point for lunch and back again. As you can see, the varied views out to Maria Island were lovely. I have posted a map of the walk, thanks to Runkeeper and GPS on my mobile phone.

  1. That must have been a great walk.

I am new to Hobart and interested in joining a walking group. Do you maybe have contact details to get some information about the Clarence walking group?
    Thank you in advance.

  2. Hi Ilse, the Clarence group is actually just a bunch of friends who we have been invited to join, they're not an official club as such. But I have also joined the Hobart Walking Club www.hobartwalkingclub.org.au. I'm currently still a prospective member with 1 qualifying walk to go - you need to complete 3 walks and a training day to become a full member. I'd highly recommend it as they have a walk on somewhere almost 365 days a year, and also walks to suit different interests and abilities. Another one I have heard of but not tried is called Pandani Bushwalking Club. There are so many lovely walks here! Lucky you've moved to Hobart :-)

  3. Hi Susan,
Thanks for your information! I like day walks but I thought that you had to complete an overnight walk to become a member of the Hobart Walking club. But that seems not to be the case, so maybe I should consider joining the Hobart walking club.
